As September closes out and the high summer heat finally breaks, the DFW Metroplex enters its best season for outdoor recreation. If you have a boat, RV, or trailer parked in one of our secure outdoor storage units, now is the perfect time to pull it out and hit the open road (or water)!
Cooler temperatures and clear skies make for ideal camping, boating, and trailering conditions. Here is your guide to the best DFW-area destinations this fall, all within an easy haul from our facility.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department offers incredible lake parks just outside the city that are fully equipped for your home-on-wheels.
Cedar Hill State Park (Joe Pool Lake): Located just south of Dallas on Joe Pool Lake, this is a prime spot for RV owners. The park features over 350 developed campsites with water and electricity hookups, two boat ramps, and lighted fishing jetties. The cooler weather is perfect for hiking the DORBA Trail (when dry) or simply enjoying the sunset over the water. (Link to: Cedar Hill State Park)
Ray Roberts Lake State Park (North of Denton): Just an hour north of the Metroplex, this massive park is a weekend destination. The Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch units both offer campsites, multiple boat ramps, and plenty of space for your trailer. Fall is the absolute best time for fishing the 29,000-acre lake for largemouth bass or exploring the extensive trail system. (Link to: Ray Roberts Lake State Park)
Lake Mineral Wells State Park (West of Fort Worth): For a completely different landscape, head west. This park is a hidden gem with campsites for your RV/trailer and is home to Penitentiary Hollow, one of the few natural rock climbing areas in North Texas. It's a great base camp for both relaxation and adventure. (Link to: Lake Mineral Wells State Park)
Enjoying your boat without the intense summer crowds is one of the best parts of DFW fall.
Grapevine Lake (Grapevine/Trophy Club): Conveniently located and a popular destination, Grapevine Lake offers an 8,000-acre water playground. You can launch your boat at one of the 11 public access ramps or enjoy the scenery from Trophy Club Park. You'll find two full-service marinas here: Scott's Landing Marina and Silver Lake Marina. Lewisville Lake (Lewisville/Frisco): As one of the largest lakes in North Texas, Lewisville Lake is a prime spot for water sports and fishing. With multiple marinas and boat rental options, it provides all the space you need for a fall day on the water.
